Active Electric Ltd.
began life as Sharp Electric, a company founded by George Sharp
and his brother in the 1920's.
Sharp Electric operated until
1951 when George was fatally injured in a traffic accident. The
business continued, but soon became insolvent. At this time, the
employees - Sid Hinton, Cyril Ballinger and Art Blakey -
purchased what remained of the business. They reopened as
Active Electric
in that same year.
In the early years, the company was involved in more than just
electrical work. This included a general shop concerned with
machining, milling, mechanical work, motor winding and
refrigeration. The company also produced and delivered lead
fishing sinkers to
the local fishermen
at Sewell’s
Marina.
Active Electric
operated with a staff of six employees until 1967 when,
sadly, both Cyril and Art passed away. Sid continued to
operate the business which, in 1982, included his partner (and
son) Dave Hinton. In 1987, Sid passed away and Dave assumed
control of the company. In 1999, Eric Philbrook was taken on as
a partner.
Active Electric Ltd.
continues to grow and welcomes your business!
*Update*
We are pleased to announce that Dorin Hudea has
partnered with Eric Philbrook to manage the day–to–day
operations of
Active Electric Ltd.
Since joining the company in 2002, Dorin’s expertise and
dedication to quality have endeared him to both customers and
colleagues alike. Dave Hinton will be missed as he focuses on
the development of his Mayne Island Resort project.
